WestBridge backed APEM completes second acquisition

Our portfolio company APEM has completed its second acquisition in seven months, as it pursues ambitious growth.

The Manchester-headquartered environmental consultancy has acquired Galway-based AQUAFACT, a specialist in marine surveys. The transaction follows APEM’s acquisition of Woodrow, an environmental and sustainability consultancy, in July 2021.

This latest deal reinforces APEM’s reputation as a leading player in the global environmental consultancy sector.

APEM Group now has over 300 employees and offers an unparalleled range of specialist services and technical capabilities to public and private sector organisations across the world.

Already recognised as the global leader in digital aerial wildlife surveys, APEM’s expertise covers the marine, freshwater, terrestrial and geospatial fields.

The company has gone from strength to strength since WestBridge supported a management buyout in March 2019.

Peter Barkley, director at WestBridge, said:

“APEM has performed extremely well since our investment. Strong organic growth has created a solid platform to support such acquisitions, which are central to our strategy.

“AQUAFACT has an excellent reputation and the services it provides are a perfect augmentation of the rapidly growing APEM Group. It goes without saying, we are delighted to have supported this latest transaction.”

APEM CEO, Dr Adrian Williams, said:

“There has never been a more exciting time to work in environmental consultancy. Bringing AQUAFACT into the APEM Group enables us to provide a wider range of services to more clients. It also gives us a stronger foothold in Ireland where there is a burgeoning offshore wind market.

“As ever, we are grateful for the unwavering support provided by the team at WestBridge. This is another positive step as we pursue our ambitious growth strategy.”
